Lima

In addition to the catastrophic road conditions, dilapidated buildings and poverty, the power lines literally jump out at you. There are these beautiful pictures from India where a huge tangle of cables hangs from a pylon that is far too thin. It's not that extreme! However, cables were simply added, rolled up and distributed further, almost without a system. It doesn't really look like a logical concept for distributing electricity. And this image of Lima extends across the whole city. Until at some point the driveway to Miraflores arrives.

In contrast to the run-down outer districts, Miraflores is dotted with modern buildings and skyscrapers. Hotels, restaurants and stores line the streets here. In addition to the police, you will also find the Serenazgo, a security service that supports the local authorities. Along with Barranco, the district is considered very safe. However, you still have to make compromises here. While you can stroll down to the Pacific coast during the day and encounter plenty of onlookers, many of the crossings to the beach and the beach itself are no longer recommended after sunset. Poverty and the lack of people drive people to robberies and violence.
